How To Look Awake Even When You Haven't Slept

Sometimes it can be difficult to get a good night’s sleep but you still have to look awake for school or work the next morning. If you wake up looking half asleep, what can you do to eliminate those sleepy looking eyes and dark circles so you can look presentable at the office? Here’s how to look awake even if you’ve been up all night:

How to look awake: Apply cold compresses to the eyes.

If your eyes look swollen and puffy, grab a bag of frozen vegetables from the freezer and hold them against your eyes for five minutes. The cold will help to reduce eyelid swelling and can even help to wake you up. Always keep a packet of frozen vegetables in the freezer since you never know when your next sleepless night will be.

How to look awake: Use eyedrops.

If you haven’t slept and your eyes look red and irritated, use a lubricating eye drop that removes redness such as Clear Eyes before you apply your eye makeup. This will make your eyes look clearer and brighter instantly.

How to look awake: Curl your lashes.

Invest in an inexpensive eyelash curler for those nights when you don’t get enough sleep. Curling your lashes opens up the eyes and will make you look more awake and alert. Eyelash curlers are available at most drugstores and beauty supply shops. You’ll probably love it so much you’ll use it on a daily basis.

How to look awake: Use a concealer.

A quick way to hide those dark circles is to apply a concealer that’s one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. First, apply a thin layer of eye cream directly under the eyes followed by a light layer of concealer. Use a brush with a flat tip to skillfully blend the concealer over the darkened areas. In under three minutes, you’ll look more awake and alert.

How to look awake: Dress to appear more awake.

If you’ve had little sleep, be careful what clothing you select for school or office. This is not the day to wear black, particularly if it’s not a color that complements you. Choose a lighter, more vibrant shade that’s flattering with your skin and hair. Be sure to add earrings and a necklace. This can help to draw the eye away from dark circles and a sallow complexion from lack of sleep.

How to look awake: Wear a bronzer.

A bronzer can give your sallow skin a color lift. Be sure to avoid applying it so heavily that it looks obvious. Blend a small amount down into your neck area to avoid a line of demarcation where the color ends. Follow up with a touch of blush and you’ll instantly look more chipper.

By taking a few simple steps, you can be prepared for those days when you awaken after a sleepless night and no one at the office will know the difference.
